Amendments & What They Do
| Compost:
Loosens soil and all around fertilizer. |
| Peat moss:
Good for lightening soil; breaks down quickly in the south. |
| Sawdust & Bark:
Woody products are good soil amendments. Offset excessive nitrogen with
fertilizer. |
| Lime: If soil is very
acid; add lime. Don't guess at whether lime or sulfur is needed. Follow
your ph test recommendations and those on the product label. |
| Bone meal: High in
phosphorous. |
| Greensand: High in
potassium, this mineral also loosens the soil. |
| Cottonseed meal & blood
meal: Good sources of nitrogen. |
